This review is specifically for the ELEMENTARY section of Pierce school only. The elementary section is relatively new and opened in a different campus outside of the city centre in Spata. My children attended from the year it opened and have now moved on to the middle school. Before going to Pierce we looked at many other schools and attended another private school in Athens. Overall, our experience was very positive and I firmly believe Pierce now offers the best elementary education in all of Athens. The teachers were very responsive to our needs and it was clear Pierce had recruited the best they could find. Of note especially is the English language programme - it is the best you will find in the country and one of the very few lessons that offers actual critical thinking skills (the Greek curriculum generally is not geared towards this so for us it was vital that there be some kind of course which did offer it). The only issue however, is Greek parents who complain their children should be receiving 'list' of grammar and vocabulary in their English lessons and do not understand that learning by rote is not always the most effective method because they've had it drilled into them through their education, I really wish the school does not listen to the parents on this topic and continue with their system on learning by doing which is proven to yield better results. Any time we had a problem and went to the school with it the response was swift and effective - we had not experienced this in other private schools. As said, I believe this is the best private elementary school in Athens, my main gripe is that we pay high prices for facilities that have not yet been built, in fact almost all the parents were annoyed by this, yet year on year the school hiked up the prices (despite promising those that joined the school in its opening year that they wouldn't), as it is, we pay prices that should include a basketball court, a theatre and many other amenities which simply don't exist. That said, for us the quality of the teachers was the most important thing and for that reason we are happy overall. We would also like more attention top be given to the girl's sports teams, last year ONE match was arranged by the school for the entire year, which is clearly absurd. The big problem we face now is the Pierce middle school (Gymnasiou) which if I had to review it I would give 2 stars because it really does not compare, so be aware that if you are joining the elementary school with the intention your children will continue to the middle school, that the middle school is very sub par with mostly uninspiring teachers coupled with high prices without the facilities you actually pay for.

A long history started in 1875 in Smyrna, Asia Minor teaching Greek girls with modern American education. Nowadays here in Athens Agia Paraskevi suburb you can find anything you need of a modern school. Highly educated personnel and great sport facilities including Olympic size pool and track and field stadium. Another advantage is that you cannot enter school without passing exams.
