Professional Licensure Disclosure

The Women鈥檚 Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) Master鈥檚 degree program is designed to prepare graduates to seek national certification and state licensure as Nurse Practitioners in the specialty of Women鈥檚 Health. Graduates of this program are academically eligible to apply for the Women鈥檚 Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP鈥態C) national certification examination, provided all individual eligibility requirements are met. The certification examination is the nationally recognized certification for Women鈥檚 Health Nurse Practitioners and is required for licensure in most U.S. jurisdictions.

Graduates of this program who meet New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of the Professions requirements may apply for New York State Nurse Practitioner certification in Women鈥檚 Health. Licensure requirements for Nurse Practitioners vary by state and U.S. territory and may include additional requirements beyond graduation and national certification. Completion of this New York鈥慴ased WHNP program does not guarantee eligibility for Nurse Practitioner licensure in every state or territory.

At this time, the University has not made a determination as to whether this program meets the educational requirements for Nurse Practitioner licensure in states or jurisdictions outside of New York State. Students who intend to practice outside New York are strongly encouraged to consult the appropriate state licensing board prior to enrollment. A comprehensive directory of state Nurse Practitioner licensure requirements is available through:

  • American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP):
  • National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN):

Non鈥慶urricular licensure requirements are established by individual state licensing authorities and are subject to change. Students are responsible for understanding and complying with the licensure requirements of the state in which they intend to practice.
